Answers to skip hire questions
Thank you for taking the time to see if the question you have is answered here before calling Tiger Bin Hire. We hope it is, but if not please feel free to contact us – we’re here for you!
Note ; Tiger bin hire is the only locally owned skip bin company with its own purpose built recycling facility.
In an effort to conserve and protect our natural resources and reduce landfill, Tiger Bin Hire is always looking for new ways to ensure a large percentage of the rubbish collected is recycled. Concrete, brick, rocks and tiles are redirected to recycling facilities to be crushed into hard rubble for laying roads. Green Waste Skips are redirected to landscaping facilities to be turned into mulch. Any clean fill or soil collected by Tiger Bin Hire is also recycled. Metal items, such as white goods and items made from non ferrous steel can also be recycled.
You can play a part too! Knowing what is in the bin helps us in the sorting and recycling process, so please choose the right bin for the rubbish you wish to remove; it’s in everyone’s best interest.
TVs and computer screens are classified as e-waste. You can add these items to two skip bin types only – General Rubbish and Mixed Rubbish Skips, but ONLY if they are placed on top of the other rubbish and they do not protrude past the top of the bin. There is a small extra charge for each television or monitor due to the separate recycling process that is required for these items.
Household electrical items such as toasters, kettles and stereos may be included in the General Rubbish Skip or Mixed Rubbish Skip at no extra charge. Please refer to the rubbish types page for details.
Inner spring mattresses and ensemble bases may be added to General Rubbish and Mixed Rubbish Skips, but ONLY if they are placed on top of the other rubbish and they do not protrude past the top of the bin. There is an extra charge for each mattress. Please refer to the skip sizes & prices page (additional items) for details.
Motorbike tyres, car tyres and truck tyres (with rims or without rims) may be added to General Rubbish and Mixed Rubbish Skips, but ONLY if they are placed on top of the other rubbish and they do not protrude past the top of the bin. There is an extra charge for tyres. Please refer to the skip sizes & prices page (additional items) for details.
White goods are large electrical household items such as fridges, freezers, washing machines and dryers. You can add these items to General Rubbish and Mixed Rubbish Skips, as long as they do not protrude past the top of the bin. There is an extra charge for each of these items due to the separate recycling process that is required. Please refer to the skip sizes & prices page (additional items) for details.
There are some items that can not be thrown away in any skip, for environmental and occupation health and safety reasons:
Food scraps, chemicals or poisons, liquids including wet paint and oil, gas cylinders, explosive materials, or uncontained fine dusty substances including asbestos.
Please refer to our rubbish types page for more detailed information.
YES… Tiger Bin Hire can deliver skips to you on Saturday. If you plan on filling your skip across the weekend it’s a great idea to book your skip ahead of time to avoid disappointment, as Saturday deliveries are very popular.
Tiger Bin Hire can deliver skip bins in 5 convenient sizes.
You can order 2m³ mini skips, 3m³ mini skip bins, 4.5m³ skip bins, 6m³ skip bins and 8m³ skip bins, depending on the amount and type of rubbish you wish to remove. Not every rubbish type is suitable for all skip bin sizes. Read more about skip bin sizes available and the physical dimensions of each.
To estimate the size of skip bin you need, you can calculate the volume of your rubbish pile like this:
Length x Width x Height
= 1.8m x 1.6m x 1.3m
= approximately 3.7m cubed
In this example, you would select a 4.5m³ skip bin.
If you have several piles of rubbish, simply calculate the volume of each pile then add them together to work out the total volume. Be sure to book the skip bin that allows for a little extra room rather than ordering a bin that is too small!
To be guaranteed a skip bin on the day you require it, we recommend that you place your booking at least one day prior to delivery. In some circumstances we may be able provide same day delivery, but this is not guaranteed.
For your convenience, you can book a skip bin online at any time or you can phone Tiger Bin Hire during office hours on 0467 542 366.
Tiger Bin Hire offer several convenient payment options for delivery of your skip. Credit card payments using either MasterCard or Visa may be made when booking your skip bin online or over the phone. You may also choose to pay the driver directly for your skip at the time of delivery using cash or EFTPOS. Payment is required prior to delivery or at the time of delivery, NOT on pick up.
If you have any questions about paying for your skip bin, please feel free to contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
It is very important that NO skip is filled past the rim of the bin. This is due to Occupational Health and Safety legislation that requires full skip bins to be covered while in transit. If the driver is unable to safely cover and remove the skip bin, you may be asked to remove some items before the skip bin can be taken away. In some circumstances, the driver may remove some items from the skip in order to safely remove the bin.
NO! Once placed, the bin cannot be moved. If the skip bin is moved while it is empty, once filled you will not be able to move it back and the truck may not be able to lift it. The skip bins provided by Tiger Bin Hire should not be pulled or dragged once placed on the ground. Any damaged caused to the skip will be paid for by the hirer.
All of our General Rubbish Skips and Green Waste Skips have weight limits which are unlikely to be exceeded if the skip has been filled according to the skip bin type you have booked.
The weight limit for 2m³ is 500kg, 3m³ is 650kg and 4.5m³ is 850kg.
Any General Rubbish or Green Waste skip ordered that exceeds the given weight limit will be charged at an additional $15 per 100kg. In some cases, if there are items that should not have been placed in the skip, you may be asked to remove them.
If a skip bin is filled past the rim and the driver is unable to safely secure the contents, the skip is deemed illegal to transport, resulting in the driver being unable to remove the skip bin. In some cases you may be asked to remove items from the bin or the driver may remove some of the overflowing contents in order to safely remove the skip bin.
If the driver is unable to safely remove the overloaded material, the driver may contact the client and give them the opportunity to order another skip to place the overloaded items into. If you think your skip is overloaded, please call Tiger Bin Hire before your skip is due for collection to order a replacement skip.
Clients can request where they would like the bin to be placed, however due to logistical and safety considerations, the final placement is at the driver’s discretion. Skip bins can be placed anywhere on your property as long as the area is accessible for the truck. These areas include driveways, front gardens, backyards etc.
Tiger Bin Hire are also permitted by the local council to place skip bins on the nature strip. If you select this option it may be worth considering a shorter hire term or selecting a skip bin with a lid in order to stop uninvited dumping in the skip bin.
Tiger Bin Hire short term hire period is any time up to 5 days. If a bin is required for a shorter amount of time, that’s not a problem. We give our clients the option to have the bin up to 5 days for their convenience, allowing enough time to fill the skip. Same day delivery and pick up is available if arranged prior.
Long term skip bin hire is available at an additional charge of $5 per day, or if you require ongoing long term hire, please contact us for further information.
If a client fills a bin before originally anticipated, a quick message via our contact page is all that is required to let us know the skip is ready for collection.
Due to logistics, a specific time for delivery and collection of the skip bin can not be promised. However, if you let us know you have certain time frame requirements when booking your skip, we will do our best to organise your delivery as close to that time slot as possible.
If you wish to hire your skip for more than 5 days, you can do so at an additional charge of $5 per day. If you require ongoing long term hire, this scenario is evaluated on a case by case basis. The cost will depend on how much longer you require the skip bin, if you require a replacement skip bin and if the skip is required for another job. Please contact us if you require the bin for an extended period of time.
